Miss Wales promoted to Miss UK

Miss Wales, Amy Guy, has just received a promotion after hearing from the Miss World Organisation, that she has been officially nominated Miss UK 2004.

Amy, a 22 year old architecture graduate from Wrexham, has been awarded the title after being the most successful UK contestant at the recent Miss World contest in China.

Fast-tracked into the final 15 on the night having won Miss World Sport and Fitness during the six week competition, Amy was eventually beaten to the title by Miss Peru, Maria Julia Mantilla Garcia.

She will keep the title until the Miss World 2005 which will take place towards the end of this year.

Amy said: “This is fantastic news. I put my all into the competition and was delighted to win the sports title and reach the final of the competition. The promotion to Miss UK opens even more doors for me and makes me even more sure that one day soon Miss Wales will win Miss World.”

Chair of the judges at Miss Wales 2004 was Harryono Judodihardjo from sponsoring company Cellite Clinic. Before going to Miss World, Harry put Amy through a rigorous grooming and training programme to improve her chances of success.

He said: “Amy has excelled in her capacity as Miss Wales and truly deserves the title Miss UK. Her success will only encourage more girls to enter the 2005 competition.”

The search for Miss Wales 2005 begins on St Dwynwen’s Day (Tuesday 25 January), which is the Welsh equivalent to St Valentine’s Day. Organisers will be asking Welsh women between the ages of 16-24 ‘Would You Love to be Miss Wales?’
