Nurse Lucy Wins Miss Wales

Lucy Whitehouse from Barry has been crowned Miss Wales 2009.

The 21-year-old nurse took the title on Saturday evening in front of a 1,000 strong crowd at Cardiff International Arena.

Lucy will now go on to represent Wales at Miss World in South Africa this autumn.

She said: “It’s a wonderful feeling and one of total surprise too. There were so many incredible girls taking part, it’s a real honour to have won.”

In second place was Kathryn Lane from Cardiff, while Larissa Feeley from Cwmbran came third.

Special guest at the event was the reigning Miss World Ksenia Sukhinova who flew in from Russia to celebrate the fundraising achievements of the 2009 Miss Wales finalists.

Other prizes presented on the evening were the Miss Wales Beauty With A Purpose Award which went to Ceri Booth of Brynna; best hair which was won by Chloe Valentine from Narbeth; best dressed which went to Kathryn Lane from Cardiff; and Spirit of Miss Wales won by Nia Marshallsay of Penparcau. The winner of the public vote was Zoe-Jade Hughes of Haverfordwest.

Event organiser, Paula Abbandonato from Vibe, said: “Once again, we have a wonderful winner going on to represent Wales at Miss World. I am sure Lucy will do us all proud.”

The out-going Miss Wales, Chloe-Beth Morgan from Cwmbran, also received a wonderful surprise over the weekend when she was crowned Miss UK by the Miss World Organisation, after scoring the highest of the British contestants at the recent Miss World competition.

Ends.
