The search for Miss Wales 2005 begins

Would you love to be Miss Wales? That’s the question being asked of young Welsh women as the most thorough search ever for a new Miss Wales begins.

Organisers are promising the biggest and best competition in its history as they prepare a pageant to rival its UK counterparts.

There are a number of firsts for this year’s contest - launched on St Dwynwen’s Day (the Welsh equivalent to St Valentines) – as Wales prepares to find the woman who will bring the Miss World crown back to Wales.

Top of the list is a series of regional rounds which will take place in the north and south of the country. From these rounds, the judges will select the girls to take part in the national final in The Coal Exchange, Cardiff, on Friday 22 July.

Another first for this year, is the chance for local organisations to fast-track their local girl to the final by organising their own local Miss Wales heat.

Event organiser, Paula Abbandonato, explains: “In the last two years, the competition has really taken off again and we want to give as many young women as possible the chance to take part.”

Chair of the judges, Dr Harryono Judodihardjo of Cardiff’s Cellite Clinic, is already putting together a programme for the 2005 winner to give her the best possible chance of eventually bringing home the Miss World crown to Wales

He said: “Amy Guy, Miss Wales 2004, has done Wales proud by being the only UK contestant to reach the finals of Miss World; by winning the title Miss World Sports and Fitness; and by being promoted to Miss UK.

“We are looking for an achiever who can follow in Amy’s footsteps. It’s going to be hugely exciting for everyone involved and a fantastic opportunity for our winner to see the world.”

Application forms to enter Miss Wales 2005 are available on www.misswales.co.uk. You should be between the ages of 16-24, never have been married and you should not have children.

The winner of Miss Wales 2005 will automatically take part in the Miss World competition at the end of the year in China and will enjoy a package of prizes including a year’s hair care and clothing.

Monies raised from Miss Wales 2005 will be donated to Save The Children.
