Initially, it was my nan who encouraged me apply for the competition. She convinced me that I had nothing to lose, only experiences to gain.

Receiving the e-mail from Paula informing me that I had been selected, I had a sudden rush of excitement. It was time to get planning and organising as I knew I had a busy few months ahead of me!

Raising money and awareness for the worldwide, children’s charity ‘Beauty With A Purpose’ has been both rewarding and thoroughly enjoyable. Our first fundraising event as finalists was alongside current Miss Wales, Emma Jenkins, where we participated in a sponsored ‘wedge walk’ around Cardiff Bay. This event gave us the opportunity to begin friendships and since then we have created a group chat where we chat and socialise 24/7. (No kidding, it’s quite a challenge to keep up with all the messages!) My personally planned events made me realise how huge my network of support was. My friends, family and community have over-whelmed me with their generosity, throughout every event.

I believe I have pushed myself out of my comfort zone during my journey. To promote and raise awareness of the charity I held assembly’s in school for all ages, explaining the daily struggles of some children both in this country and elsewhere. Publicly speaking was not something that I particularly enjoyed before, but the assemblies were truly rewarding with the youngest pupils of the school giving the last of their money so willingly. My school, Ysgol Gyfun Cymer Rhondda, has been supportive through the whole process helping me raise an outstanding sum of money. I love the fact that I could involve my passion for the welsh language into one of my events felly diolch o galon i staff a disgyblion Ysgol y Cymer.

I would like to say a massive thank you to Paula Abbandonato, Emma Jenkins and also to Emily Elizabeth Salon for the fantastic opportunities and support they have given me. My gratitude cannot be put into words.

I urge every young woman to grab this opportunity with both hands, and promise that not one will regret it. ‘There is no failure in life other than not trying’ – Jane Seymour is one of my favourite quotes, and a life lesson that I have learned in my time of becoming a finalist. I have given 100% throughout and look forward to the grand final.
