I can truly and with great pride say that the Miss Wales competition has changed my life; and that’s why I’m taking part for the second time!
In 2015, taking part at 17 years of age, I was blissfully unaware of the technicalities of pageants; despite growing up hearing all about the famous Helen Morgan at Miss World in 1974. After being selected as a finalist, I soon realised that this pageant was not simply about the technicals and the final stage, but so much more. The Miss Wales pageant is truly wonderful; It raises money for fantastic causes, it is a fabulous way of making life-long friends, and it really does raise self-esteem and self-belief.
I had some tough and challenging times in 2015/2016, but the competition journey gave me the confidence to banish negativity and hurt from my life, and instead concentrate on becoming the best and strongest version of me. Being a finalist also allowed me to gain experiences in modelling, which I am still thankful to be doing to this day and have even featured on the website of a globally recognised brand.
Since being a 2017 finalist, I have created my own Beauty With a Bounce Event- a charity day with with other finalists at a trampoline park where we were joined by a local Down’s syndrome group. I’ve also assisted Ty Hafan staff at their annual Christmas siblings party, helped to promote the White Ribbon Campaign in Neath Port Talbot, and have staged a 5k charity fun run; all for the charity Beauty With a Purpose. My old school have also supported me by all wearing red for a day! The Miss Wales competition has truly enhanced my opportunities and lit a fire inside me to encourage and support other young women. It’s an experience that has moulded me into the woman I am today and one which I will treasure and talk about for life.
