So the Miss Wales 2016 event has drawn to a close – and we have a new winner… the lovely Ffion Moyle from Carmarthen.

I have to say that the class of 2016 were an absolutely outstanding group of girls who dug really deep to make the most of the experience. Not only did they raise an incredible £22,500 for the Miss World charity, Beauty With A Purpose, but they responded to all the opportunities offered to them without hesitation. These ranged from VIP treatment at the BBC Wales Srum V programme to modelling at the Miss Wales 2015 fashion show.

Within a week of her win, Ffion has opened the Paloma store in Cardiff, been offered press and radio interviews, modelling assignments and more. Tomorrow, she and I head off to Jersey for a weekend with the Miss World organisation to applaud Julia Morley, the chair of Miss World, when she is presented with the Variety International Humanitarian award for her work with charity over the years.

It’s been a whirlwind of a few weeks – not only with the buzz of the three day grand final events – and all the work leading up to it but also in the days since. It’s exhilarating and exhausting at the same time which makes for many memories. And yet, there’s no time to slow down. The Miss Wales calendar gets busier and busier every year and very soon – within two months actually – I will start recruiting the class of 2017. The 2017 grand final will take place on Saturday 8 April and while that may seem ages away, the sooner our finalists are recruited, the sooner they can enjoy all the fun times associated with being a Miss Wales contestant.

I am hoping to see old faces and new at next year’s competition. You can win it if you are a seasoned pageant professional or a complete newbie standing on the stage for the very first time. That’s the beauty of Miss Wales.

Let me leave you with this message I received in recent days from one of our 2016 finalists….

“I’ve literally got more done within this week than I have in a month – things that I kept putting to the bottom of my list! Somehow since that night or maybe since Harry’s empowerment day, I don’t know I literally feel reborn, I can’t explain how much I feel like this whole experience has saved me in sooo many ways (maybe one day I’ll write a blog about it, but I’m too wrapped up in being a strong independent lady to talk about weakness right now lol) and I just wanted you to know that even when things get sucky and horrid people try and darken your sparkle by stealing your things and you have no feet left from living in sparkly shoes, the work that you do has more of an impact than you could ever imagine and I can’t thank you enough for doing what you do. You are a real life fairy godmother.”

To say I was touched by her message is an understatement. She made me laugh with the fairy godmother statement but she makes me laugh all the time anyway.

We might be scared of standing up and standing out

”What if I fall? Oh my darling, but what if you fly?”

Don’t clip your wings…your attitude affects your altitude in life.
