It is exactly one month today the Miss Wales Final of 2016 begins! Although I only received the email informing me I was a Miss Wales finalist 2016 representing Rhondda Cynon Taff in July 2015 I have already achieved so much. I have made friends from all across the country who continue to inspire and support me endlessly and who I am sure I will stay in contact with from years to come. I have raised money for Miss Wales’ charity Beauty with a Purpose by holding a Tapas night, walking up Pen-Y-Fan and will be running the Cardiff Half Marathon in less than two weeks! These events have been very self-rewarding knowing that all proceeds I raise are going to disadvantaged children worldwide. If it wasn’t for the Miss Wales competition and their passion and encouragement for the charity I would not have completed these amazing activities and would never have felt the self-fulfilment I feel today. However for me, my greatest achievement has been gaining a considerable amount of confidence. Although I was never shy before, I had never realised the skills and qualities I had that the competition has brought out of me, I am now able to achieve things such as running a half marathon with less self-doubt and more encouragement from friends and family. It is much easier accepting a compliment when you believe in yourself!

When I first entered the competition I was unaware of what ‘Miss Wales’ actually entailed. However, after competing for the Miss Wales title I am now aware of what it takes to be a Miss Wales finalist. It is not just about looks but about dedication, passion, having confidence and a positive outlook! Anyone who takes the competition seriously and makes it to the final is already an inspiration in my eyes as they are becoming the best version of themselves. I would definitely encourage anyone who is thinking about competing to apply for the competition as it has been an experience of a lifetime and I am so grateful to Paula Abbandonato, for giving me this opportunity and to my friends, family, sponsor, Emma Jenkins and the other Miss Wales finalist of 2016 for encouraging and supporting me throughout my journey! Let the countdown to the final begin…
