The Miss Wales Blog

Paula Abbandonato - Miss Wales director - November 2015

My latest blog is a bit of a tribute to Emma but one which I think is well deserved. Being Miss Wales is a privilege and a pleasure but what I also tell girls is that it doesn’t make you rich and it doesn’t make you famous. The reality is that like most things – what you put in is what you get out. Emma is in my opinion a hugely successful and effective Miss Wales. She’s busy busy and yet never seems to be too busy to answer the phone, respond to an email or send a text. It’s like the saying goes, if you want something done, ask a busy person. She flies to China on Friday to take part in Miss World 2015. It will be a month of unforgettable experiences and the opportunity to make friends from across the globe. She and I (and a lot of bags) will be heading off to Heathrow at the crack of dawn that morning and I’ll have a lump in my throat waving her off that’s for sure. She’s worked so hard for this opportunity, She has been absolutely choc-a-block between her full time job and her personal preparations but somehow she really has found the time to get stuck in to her responsibilities for Beauty With A Purpose. She has supported Women’s Aid in Llanelli since becoming an ambassador of theirs earlier this year, and just a couple of weeks ago rallied the troops in her home town of Llanelli to organise a fashion show fundraiser for Beauty with a Purpose. With so many shops, collections, models, guests and contributors to negotiate – it was no mean feat. Emma says her phone has been ringing off the hook with requests and media interviews in the last few weeks. And with just two days before she jets off to Sanya, she’s agreed to do a fashion shoot in Cardiff for Red Handed Magazine – no time for last minute pampering for this Miss Wales. I hope the Miss World team and judges see in Emma, what we see in her. A Miss Wales with warmth, humour, integrity and very emotionally intelligent! If that doesn’t make a great candidate for the Miss World crown, I don’t know what does. Good luck Emma from me and Wales. Have the time of your life and a sleep on that plane. You deserve it x
